The Tsukiji Compromise
Documenting moments before the disappearance of the worlds largest fish market
Tokyo's Tsukiji fish market will be demolished by the end of 2017.
With Tokyo winning the bid to host the 2020 Olympic games
Tsukiji will be compromised in order to make way for a new highway connection
providing a faster route between the olympic village and stadiums.
The market will be relocated to a new concrete build location in Toyosu.
The move has been delayed
due to toxic soil being found at the market's new destined location.
Every year, more than 700,000 tonnes of fish pass through this market.
Will all be lost.
The generational passing of knowledge and customer trust will be harshly affected.
The market is still very much alive
a significant piece of Tokyo's history
